Top Ten Ways to Cut Calories from Your Everyday Diet
Everyone wants a slim waistline, smaller hips, and an overall toned body. Studies have proven that the best way to achieve this is through proper diet and exercise. Counting calories is an ageless method that many have used in losing weight and maintaining good overall health. Calories can sneak into your diet without your knowledge. It is essential to be aware of where those extra calories come from and how to eliminate them from your diet. Here are the top ten ways to cut calories from your everyday diet:
Avoid monstrous portion sizes.
Restaurants usually serve 2-3 portions in one entrée, so when dining out, ask for a half-size portion or simply ask the waiter for a box and place half of your order in it before you begin eating. When preparing your food at home, serve reasonable portions and avoid second helpings.
Listen to your body.
When you feel full, stop eating. It is a rule that many people have trouble following. Even when something is delectable and you don’t want to stop tasting it, you must listen to your body. Otherwise, you are choosing to fill your stomach with added calories that your body simply does not need.
No cheese, please!
Skip this extra when ordering sandwiches, salads, and hamburgers. It is not a huge taste-booster, and it adds an enormous amount of calories and fat to any dish.
Eat snacks and meals full of fiber.
That fibre sits in your stomach and makes you feel full longer. Remember tip #2? Well, when you are listening to your body, the fiber will be telling you that you are full. In turn, you will consume fewer calories throughout the day. So, eat that fiber up.
Avoid any drinks other than water.
Any time you are thirsty throughout the day, head to the water fountain, or grab a nearby water bottle. Sodas, and other sugary drinks, are the easiest route that calories can take to enter your body. When you are thirsty and down a big bottle of soda, you have consumed a small meal’s worth of calories and will not feel full. It will actually make you hungrier. So, water is the way to go. It is natural, and your body craves it. It is a necessity.
For those coffee drinkers out there, listen up.
If you like your coffee sweetened, you may, unknowingly, be adding a ton of calories to your daily diet. Those spoonfuls of sugar add up, especially when you drink numerous cups of coffee throughout the day. So, try to minimize your coffee intake, or, use a sugar substitute for 1 or 2 cups of coffee a day.
Buy a calorie counter.
There are many books out there that have all of the calorie calculations that you need to count your daily calories. Purchase one that is handy, that you can take everywhere. Stick it in your purse or your car, and keep it handy for those times that you aren’t sure what to eat, or how much of something you should eat.
Log your daily food intake in a journal.
You will be surprised at how many calories you consume throughout the day. Sometimes it just takes seeing it on paper to allow you to tweak your routine to eliminate those extra calories from your diet.
Don’t buy into the “low-cal” versions of foods.
Often times those items have large amounts of fat and have a negative effect on your weight-loss. Instead, search for the natural foods. Seek out foods that are made from natural ingredients and limited chemical additives.
Last, but not least, make sure you eat and drink water at all meals.
Your stomach needs to have solid foods washed down with liquid. The water will help in digestion and, once again, add to that full feeling.
Cutting calories can be a challenge, but it is worthwhile. After you change you routine in these ways, it will become easier to maintain a lifestyle that eliminates extra calories that your body doesn’t need or want. Soon, your physical appearance will reflect your positive choices.
