Heart, Blood Pressure & Cholesterol
A note from Nathan Zassman:
Here we have a variety of products that are designed to help lower blood pressure, reduce cholesterol levels, and lower homocysteine. Elevated homocysteine is now considered to be a risk factor for many health concerns, from heart disease to Alzheimer's disease. By combining Vitamin B6, B12, and folate (preferably in the MTHF form), you may be able to reduce levels of homocysteine in the blood, considered a risk factor for heart disease, dementia, and even migraine headaches.
Many doctors feel that "heart healthy" is "everything healthy." In other words, if you do what is required to improve heart health, you will also improve your general health and reduce your risk of cancer and heart disease. The addition of "heart healthy" products like CoQ10, have also been shown to increase energy levels.
In this section are products specifically designed to lower blood pressure (hypertension) and lower cholesterol. Bergamonte (an extract of Bergamot), especially when combined with plant sterols, can be very effective at lowering cholesterol. In addition, berberine can help lower cholesterol, with the added benefit of helping to control blood sugar. Dr. Julian Whitaker believes berberine can be as effective as metformin, a popular drug for controlling blood sugar.
A new study just published found that bergamonte substantially reduced non alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) in a very short time. Another excellent natural product for lower cholesterol is Cardioviva, a special probiotic strain proven to reduce cholesterol levels with the added benefit of providing an excellent probiotic.
For lowering blood pressure, the best products include Vasculo-Sirt by Pure Encapsulations, Dr. Whitaker's BP Essentials, which uses clinically proven fish peptides that act as natural ACE inhibitors (drugs that lower blood pressure) and other synergistic ingredients. Other excellent recommendations include Vascular Relax, by Pure Encapsulations, Carditone by Ayush Herbs, and products designed to boost nitric oxide levels, including Neo40, NoxBoost, Citrulline (precursor to L-Arginine), and Pure Encapsulations Nitric Oxide Powder. Note that L-Arginine is commonly recommended as an amino acid to boost nitric oxide levels, but there can be a problem with people over 40 in metabolizing L-Arginine. L-Citrulline may be a safer and better recommendation.
I always recommend the book The Nitric Oxide Solution, by Dr. Nathan Bryan, which provides a wealth of information on how boosting nitric oxide levels (which dilates and relaxes blood vessels, resulting in improved circulation, lower blood pressure, and improved overall health) can bring amazing health benefits. The Nobel Prize was won by the three scientists that identified the role of nitric oxide and human health, and last year, the president of the American Heart Association stated that the discover of nitric oxide is the most significant discover in the history of cardiovascular medicine.
Staying Heart Healthy
By Jayson Kroner
When it comes to the quality of our cardiovascular health, no measure of preventative protection could ever be too great. Our heart is one of the most energy demanding devices in our body - literally working around the clock without the possibility of a break. Based on this tremendous responsibility, doesn't it just make sense to do everything in our power to make the load a little lighter on the old ticker?
Remember - your heart beats on average over 100,000 times per day. That's over 36 million beats every year. Do the math. And yes - eating a well balanced diet and exercising regularly are two very wise moves. However, the endless demands of the human heart can often deplete the nutrients it needs, faster than our diets can replenish them. The following supplements have shown great promise in supporting the cardiovascular system, and serve as wise additions to any heart healthy lifestyle.
The human heart uses a tremendous amount of this powerful antioxidant for functional energy. It also helps reduce LDL cholesterol oxidation while promoting healthy cellular activity.
Every cell in the human body needs lecithin to function. Moreover, lecithin is essential in transporting nutrients in and out of the heart.
