HMF Baby B provides the same types of beneficial bacteria featured in Genestra's Baby F formula - types which are normally transmitted through breast milk, and which have been shown to be well-tolerated even by infants - but at a much lower dose.

Product Notes:

Even breast-fed babies can experience digestive upset if they don't have a healthy balance of beneficial bacteria in their gastrointestinal tract to help break down the milk. A probiotic might be the solution, but they're not all tolerated well by younger babies, either - especially if they contain FOS, a type of fibre that's often added to help sustain the newly added bacteria. Genestra's HMF Baby B formula doesn't include any FOS.

HMF Baby B uses trans-galacto-oligosaccharides (GOS), instead: a fibre that's also quite similar to the type which occurs naturally in breast milk (oligo-saccharides). This powder will dissolve easily into breast milk, other types of milk, or water, if the baby is bottle-fed, or you may opt to sprinkle it directly onto the nipple for direct breast-feeding.

HMF is short for "Human Micro Flora" -- the source of these probiotic strains.

Health Canada Natural Product Number: 80048579.

Ingredients:

Each dose contains a 10 billion CFU (Colony Forming Units) blend, of:
Bifidobacterium bifidum (CUL 20), Bifidobacterium animalis subsp. lactis (CUL 34), Lactobacillus salivarius (CUL 61), Lactobacillus paracasei (CUL 08).

Non-medicinal ingredients: Transgalactooligosaccharides (GOS).

Added ingredients, to maintain viability of probiotics: dipotassium phosphate, monopotassium phosphate, trehalose, sucrose, sodium chloride, maltodextrin.

This is a Gluten-Free, Vegetarian, and Allergen-Free formula, with no FOS.

Suggested Usage:

Children (1 to 4 years): in a glass, add water or milk to one scoop of HMF Baby B and mix. Administer once daily with a meal, at least 2 to 3 hours before or after taking any antibiotics, or as recommended by your healthcare practitioner. Store under refrigeration (below 8 Celsius).

Warnings:

Do not use if the intended recipient has an immune-compromised condition. Consult your healthcare practitioner prior to using HMF Baby B if the baby is experiencing fever, vomiting, bloody diarrhea or severe abdominal pain. If symptoms of digestive upset occur, worsen, or persist beyond three days, discontinue use and consult your healthcare practitioner.

Supporting Science:

Infants aged between 0 and 6 months who were given a supplement with the probiotic strains included this formula in a clinical trial did not experience any increase in adverse event incidence or number of visits to the doctor and did not have significantly worse assessments of their health by their mothers compared to the control group not getting it.
