If there's one thing our pioneering ancestors learned how to do right on their homesteads and farms, it was to keep a clean home without using a lot of harsh chemicals and fouling the earth and groundwater they relied on, in the process. Get back to basics with these 100% pure cleaning products from Eco-Pioneer, which are all biodegradable and non-hazardous to the environment.

Product Notes:

Due to the size and weight of these products (ranging from 1.25 kg for the Soap Flakes to 2 kg for the rest), they are generally only available for in-store pickup at our Winnipeg retail location (please contact us to confirm availability). If you are interested in having them delivered, please contact us for a shipping quote.

Sustainable Packaging to Reduce Waste and Environmental Impact - Eco-Pioneer products are minimally packaged in 100% recycled paper fibre boxes with non-toxic, vegetable ink printing.

Eco-Pioneer produces its Pure Baking Soda the traditional way: using the Solvay brine process, which combines ordinary salt (sodium chloride) and limestone (calcium carbonate), and uses ammonia as a pH buffer and carbon dioxide as a precipitating agent (and then they recover that CO2 and ammonia after the reaction is done and recycle it back into the brine solution, so the only major by-product is calcium chloride). Some simple and effective cleaning uses for it are in Scented Shower Pucks; a Safe Car Washing Solution; or as a Vinyl Upholstery Cleaner.

Borax is a mineral ore called hydrated sodium borate, which consists of interlocked chains of boron, hydrogen, oxygen, water and sodium. This Pure Borax was created naturally, in "playa" lakes (ones that fill with rain water, then dry out, to leave a variety of salts in the ore in their dried out beds). The borax gets refined from the extracted ore simply by boiling it in water and adding carbonated soda, which causes the borax to dissolve in the water and the impurities to settle out, and then the borax can get isolated by pouring off the water/borax mixture and allowing it to cool so that it forms crystals. Some common uses for Borax which you can find recipes for (some may be in combination with Washing Soda) include as a Toilet Bowl Cleaner; for Automatic Dishwasher Powder(s); and as Ant Bait.

Pure Soap Flakes are created through a process called saponification: the chemical reaction that occurs when a vegetable oil or animal fat (and they only use natural vegetable oils) is mixed with the sodium hydroxide, which is a strong alkali, and then heated. The resulting hydrolysis reaction produces both glycerol and soap, which is ground into flakes after it solidifies, in this case. You can easily find some simple recipes for using Pure Soap Flakes as a Scouring Cleaner; a Laundry Soap; or an Aluminum Pan Cleaner.

Pure Washing Soda is derived from a process called solution mining, in which natural trona mineral deposits are dissolved in a water solution to create a brine, which is processed to recover both sodium carbonate (washing soda) and other types of sodium products (and the depleted brine is reused on the ore deposit to dissolve more trona and repeat the process). Pure Washing Soda can be used for many of the same things as Borax: as a Toilet Bowl Cleaner; an Automatic Dishwasher Powder; or for Ant Bait.
