As we age, we tend to produce less stomach acid, which leads to less activation of pepsin – the main digestive enzyme required to breakdown protein – which then makes it much more difficult to fully digest high protein meals (and thus leading to: dyspepsia). This product is formulated for maximum potency to immediately address both links in that chain.
Given the role of proper digestion in delivering nutrients to the immune system, some believe that chronically low hydrochloric acid is the catalyst for many diseases, and Betaine HCl may be of help in treating abnormally low levels of potassium (hypokalemia), hay fever, anemia, asthma, atherosclerosis, yeast infections, diarrhea, food allergies, gallstones, inner ear infections, rheumatoid arthritis (RA), and thyroid disorders.
To help with protein digestion, this product originally paired Betaine HCl with pepsin (which is itself a type of protease) derived from an animal source. To make it more suitable for any type of user, NOW created a vegetarian version, using a fungal form with an equivalent ability to break down proteins.
You may also want to take it on occasion even if you aren't suffering from low HCl production – after a particularly large, high-protein meal.

Acid Stable Protease (Aspergillus niger): 150 mg (150 FCC SAP)
Non-medicinal ingredients: Veg. Capsule (hypromellose, water), Cellulose, Magnesium Stearate (vegetable source), and Silica.
Suggested Usage:
Take 1 capsule daily with food. For prolonged use, consult a healthcare practitioner. Store in a cool, dry place.
