Serotonin is a neurotransmitter which can affect sleep, appetite, temperature, sexual behaviour, and sensing pain. 5-HTP (hydroxytryptophan) is a precursor to it (involved in its production), so it may be of great value in assisting with a number of conditions where a relative lack of serotonin is believed to play a significant role, including insomnia, depression, and obesity.
