Taurine is a free-form amino acid that assists in lipid metabolism, which helps stabilize active tissues in the heart and brain, and also helps the body absorb other nutrients (it's a key constituent of bile acids). Some of its cardiovascular functions include modulating ion transporters, stabilizing membranes, and modulating blood pressure and vascular tone.
Taurine is found in meats, fish, milk and eggs, but not in vegetable proteins. As a supplement, it may be of particular interest to those engaged in intense exercise (since it is depleted during exercise), or who wish to maintain healthy cardiovascular function.
In addition, a recent study found that a deficiency of taurine is a driver of aging in some animal species, and that compensating for that with supplementation could increase lifespan by as much as 25% (in mice) and increase the "health spans" (the years spent in good health, free from the chronic diseases and disabilities of aging) of both mice and Rhesus monkeys.

Taurine (free form): 2000 mg. Other ingredients: None.
Suggested Usage:
Capsules -- Adults: Take 2 capsules 1 to 4 times a day with juice or water, between meals. Consult a health care practitioner for use beyond 7 weeks.
Powder -- Adults: Take from a half to a level teaspoon 3 times a day, on an empty stomach. (May be added to liquids or shakes for easy delivery.)
