Magnesium helps maintain normal nerve and muscle (including heart) function and keep our bones and immune systems strong, among other things. It may also help us sleep: not only by blocking one type of receptor (NMDA) which hinders sleep and stimulating another (for GABA) that can promote it, but also by relaxing muscles, which may reduce sleep disturbances like nocturnal leg cramps or restless legs syndrome.
But some people may not be getting or absorbing as much magnesium from their food as they need to, possibly due to problems in their intestinal tract, certain medications, alcohol intake, or low calcium blood levels, or they may have greater needs if they are recovering from burns or surgery.
Magnesium Oil
The magnesium in these Ancient Minerals topical Sprays (which are called oils because they're slippery and so can be massaged in, but they're actually water-based), Lotions, or Gel is from a very deep well, which goes over 1.5 km below the surface of the Ancient Zechstein Seabed in the Netherlands – providing the purest known source of magnesium salt in the world, which was formed millions of years ago. Some of its uses include: to encourage healthy skin (some use it on select areas to help heal skin conditions like acne and eczema); to relieve aches and pains; and to relieve stress and improve mood.
The Original Lotion has been complemented with moisturizing ingredients such as Shea Butter and coconut oil; and a new one also adds Melatonin (which may be able to help sleep quality and improve skin healing); while the Ultra spray version has added generous amounts of Methylsulfonylmethane (OptiMSM), an organic form of sulfur that can reduce inflammation and improve skin health and complexion as a supplement, and may be able to help the magnesium ions get taken up more efficiently by the skin when taken topically, by enhancing cell membrane permeability.
Alternatively, for a new, 'transdermal' method designed to deliver magnesium topically for rapid absorption into cells, Ancient Minerals' Magnesium Gel combines the healing power of magnesium chloride with a biologically active, certified organic aloe vera extract (ACTIValoe).

Suggested Usage:
Rub thoroughly into clean skin; apply to as much of the body as possible for most efficient absorption. Rinse or wipe off any salt residue after it is absorbed, then moisturize.
Another option, for the magnesium spray: add about 2 ounces to a bath or foot soak, and immerse body or feet for 20 to 30 minutes.
