Forskolin, which is extracted from the plant Coleus forskohlii of the mint family, has been traditionally used in Ayurvedic medicine to treat various maladies, including asthma, eczema, hypertension, psoriasis, congestive heart failure, and angina. Most recently, however, studies have suggested that forskolin may play an important role along with exercise and healthy diet in body weight management.
Sometimes marketed as Coleonol, forskolin is perhaps best known as a natural weight loss aid. As a nutritional supplement, forskolin may help to support a modest improvement to body composition when used as part a program of reduced intake of dietary calories, combined with an increase in physical activity.
Forskolin works on muscles in the heart and in the walls of the blood vessels, helping to enhance body metabolism. Researchers have found that forskolin can help to promote the breakdown of stored fats in animal and human fat cells. It may also work to help release fat from the body tissue, resulting in decreased body fat and an increase in body muscle.
Most products with forskohlii contain only 1%-10% of forskolin. Herbal Slim Forskolin, a Canadian product, contains the highest levels of extract on the market (20%).
Similarly, green tea extract is also associated with moderate weight loss, particularly when taken in combination with caffeine (which is present in this product).
Ingredients:
Each 2 capsule dose contains:
250 mg Forskohlii (Plectranthus barbatus, Root) (20% Forskolin, 25:1, QCE 6.25 g)
450 mg Green Tea Extract (Camellia sinensis, Leaf) (150 mg Epigallocatechin 3-gallate, 75 mg Caffeine, 6:1, QCE 2.7 g).
Non-medicinal ingredients: Microcrystalline cellulose, hypromellose, magnesium stearate, purified water.
Suggested Usage:
Adults: Take two capsules one time per day. Take with food. Consult a healthcare practitioner for use beyond 12 weeks.
Warnings:
Do not use Herbal Slim Forskolin if you have gastric ulcers, low blood pressure, or a bleeding disorder; or if you are taking anti-coagulant or anti-hypertension medication. Consult your healthcare practitioner prior to use if you are pregnant or breastfeeding; or if you are taking prescription drugs; or if you have a liver disorder or develop symptoms of liver trouble (such as abdominal pain, dark urine or jaundice); or if you have an iron deficiency.
