These zero-calorie sweeteners have a lower glycemic index than regular table sugar and do not have a bitter after-taste or present health concerns as some artificial sweeteners do. Stevia rebaudiana is a small plant native to Paraguay and Brazil. In 1887, a South American scientist named Antonio Bertoni learned of the herb from the Guarani Paraguayan Indians who used it to flavor bitter tribal beverages. Subsequently, the French chemists Bridel and Lavieille began conducting exploratory extraction work on its leaves in the 1930s, isolating "stevioside," the pure, white, crystalline compound responsible for Stevia's flavourful properties. NOW's Better Stevia Extract products are all based on that research.
Unlike some Stevia products, BetterStevia from NOW Foods uses the whole leaf extract to derive the sweetness of real Stevia, not just isolated fractions of it such as Reb A, and they treat it with a special enzymatic process that results in a cleaner, superior taste devoid of bitterness.
The convenient packet form contains about 1 gram in each individually wrapped packet/sachet. NOW Foods also offers a variety of liquid Better Stevia products (and larger containers of the powders).
Two of these varieties (the Organic and Balance versions) also contain Inulin, and 'Balance' contains Chromium, as well, to provide support for healthy glucose metabolism.
Inulin is a type of fibre derived from chicory, which contains some shorter-chain molecules known as oligofructose or fructooligosaccharides (FOS), which function as a prebiotic, to stimulate the growth of friendly intestinal flora in order to support good colon health and better digestion and nutrient absorption. It has a low glycemic index, making it suitable for persons on certain types of restricted diets.
Chromium is a trace mineral which is involved in a number of important bodily functions, but is lacking in many of our diets, due to the over-processing of our foods. It is an effective synergist for Stevia and Inulin.

Organic Better Stevia: Organic Inulin, Organic Steviol Glycosides (Stevia rebaudiana leaf extract), Silica.
Better Stevia Balance (with Inulin & Chromium): Each 1.1 g packet contains:
130 mg Organic Stevia Extract (Stevia rebaudiana) (Leaf) (contains 80% glucosyl steviosides)
900 mg Inulin (Cichorium intybus [Chicory] Root)
50 mcg Chromium (from Chromium Chelavite-HVP Chelate)
Other Ingredients: Silica.
Non-GMO. Gluten-free, and also contains no: preservatives, artificial colors, artificial flavours or artificial sweeteners.
Suggested Usage:
For the first three types, use them to naturally sweeten beverages and foods just as you might use conventional sugar packets. Sweeten to taste; a little goes a long way.
For Better Stevia Balance, dissolve 1 packet in 4 to 8 ounces of water or desired beverage. Do not exceed 2 packets per day. Store in a cool, dry place.
