Ginkgo helps improve blood flow, among other things. As a supplement, it is not only taken for poor circulation in the limbs and for the treatment of asthma, in Traditional Chinese Medicine, but it has also been clinically shown to improve brain and memory function in elderly persons.
"It all comes down to blood." Although this sounds like a pithy proverb from Appalachian or Norse family feud narratives, it is in fact a profound principle of natural health. Blood is the factor that ties together the various functions of our bodies, distributing nutrients, removing impurities, and ensuring oxygenation. And when blood flow is poor, the body suffers. Conversely, the improvement of blood flow can have a beneficial effect on a variety of bodily functions, and this is the key to the importance of ginkgo biloba as a vasodilative supplement.
