Delivering their decongestant effects through terpene-rich extract from the buds of the Norway spruce, A. Vogel's soothing cough syrup tastes great, and its efficacy is backed up by science: in a study of its effects on congestion in children, a majority of doctors and participants' parents considered it a good treatment for this condition.
When beset by nasty coughs and mucus buildup in your throat, probably the furthest thing from your mind is the science of terpenes. Terpene molecules are found in pine-tree material, and have antibacterial, antiseptic, and mucolytic properties -- that is, they can loosen and break up phlegm. And while the science behind them is fascinating, there are more pressing concerns when you're ill -- for instance, reducing congestion and coughing. Fortunately for you, A. Vogel has you covered; regardless of how much you know about terpenes, the people at A. Vogel know quite a bit about them, and the one aspect they insist on sharing with you is the effect: terpenes work!
Santasapina® (which is called A.Vogel Soothing Cough Syrup in Canada) has been studied in 83 children with acute mucopurulent bronchitis. During the 8-10 day treatment period, coughs and night waking rapidly decreased, the mucus liquefied, its coloration became clearer and the expectoration improved. The treatment efficacy was considered good (68.7% good and 16.9% average by the physician, and 77.1% good and 9.6% average by the patients and their parents). 75% of the children said they would take the syrup again. Only 3 of the 83 children did not like its taste.
