Info: 385g Bag; Available In-Store in Three Types
These ready-made gluten-free alternatives to conventional pasta or rice products made from Organic Konjac may appeal to several constituencies: those with celiac disease or gluten or wheat sensitivities have a limited range of options for pre-prepared staples when time is tight, so these should be a welcome addition; they can be consumed almost instantly (they just need to be rinsed, first), so they're even faster than the pre-cooked rice packets, which some of you may tire of; and they can be taken to picnics or on hikes to form the basis of an instant meal without requiring any type of heating.
Although not yet well-known in North America, Konjac is a root vegetable that's been eaten for centuries in Asia. It's high in fibre, but low in calories (just 10 per serving, or 30 for the entire package), with no fat, carbs, sodium or sugar (with a low Glycemic Index, so it's also suitable for diabetics). The noodle, spaghetti, or rice shaped konjac pieces have a very neutral taste of their own, and will take on the flavour of whatever sauce or foods you add to them.
These are currently only being sold within our Winnipeg store in three types -- Better Than Rice; Better Than Noodles; and Better Than Spaghetti -- due to their weight and their intolerance to being frozen. If you would like to have them shipped outside the winter season, please contact us for details.
Purified Water, Organic Konjac Flour, Organic Oat Fibre (Juroat™), and Hydrated Lime (in the water solution, which is to be drained off).
Simply rinse the pasta in a strainer (a fine strainer, for the rice type) with cold water, prior to use. (Note, the net weight of the contents is 300 grams, once fully rinsed and drained).
Optional: heat the noodles for 4 minutes in a pan or boiling water after rinsing.
Top with your favourite sauce and ingredients.
Once opened, the pasta may be kept in water for a maximum of 2 days.
You may notice a faint aroma when the pack is opened; this is easily washed away when you rinse the contents prior to use.
Do not freeze.
