Like the Classic 405, its immediate predecessor in the 400 series of the Blueair Classic line, the Blueair Classic 480i is an air purifier geared to mid-sized rooms up to 430 square feet (40 m2), such as a living or recreation room or a large bedroom in a typical house. Both have been certified as energy-efficient by the EPA's ENERGY STAR rating program in the USA; certified as meeting the ozone emissions limit by the California Air Resources Board; and recognized as one of the quietest products in their category by the Noise Abatement Society (NAS, which awards it a 'Quiet Mark').
But while the Blueair 405 model (which may still be available here by special order; please contact us for details) came only with the standard 400 series HEPASilent particle filter – which can not only remove 99.97% of airborne particles down to the 0.3 level such as dust, PM2.5, pollen, particles, pet dander, and mold, but also 99% of germs such as bacteria and viruses down to the 0.1 micron level, in a very quiet and energy efficient manner – the Blueair 480i ships with their DualProtection Filter (formerly known as the SmokeStop filter) which adds a large layer of carbon for additional gas and odor removal, to capture smoke, VOCs, chemicals, and cooking odors.
In addition, the Blueair Classic 480i adds an AUTOmatic operating mode feature not found in the original 405 model. This entails both some integrated air quality sensors to actively monitor the humidity, temperature, PM2.5 (fine particles 2.5 microns or smaller in diameter), and VOC (volatile organic compounds) levels in the room, and an AUTO mode speed setting, which enables the unit to adjust its own fan speed to the most appropriate level for the current conditions. (So the device will start doing more air exchanges on its own when you start cooking something aromatic or doing something which kicks up the dust, for example.)
Several settings can also be easily adjusted remotely from your smartphone and tablet via the Blueair app, and you can also connect with an Amazon Alexa enabled device for voice control.

Warranty
Blueair air purifiers have a 1 year Limited Warranty, to be free from defects in material or workmanship for one (1) year from the date of purchase, provided you have replaced the filters with original Blueair replacement filters according to the recommended filter replacement schedule listed in the Blueair User Manual. That can be extended to 5 years simply by registering the product within the company within 60 days of purchase.
Suggested Usage:
Adjusting operation is easy: just raise the flip-up lid on the top of the right side of the unit to reveal the display panel, and touch the middle circle: once for the low fan speed, and more times for faster, or off. For remote control functionality, download the free Blueair Friend app, which enables you to control it not only within the house, but from afar, which you may want to do if you forgot to turn it on, for example, or if you have heard about a forest or grass fire in your area, or if you live in an urban area where you can access outdoor air quality data in real time, and have not left it in Auto mode.
