Compatibility: These combination filters are designed only for the 311 Auto model - not for the standard (non-Auto) version, which is a slightly different size and so has its own main filter.
For most households, the original regular 311 Auto filter will more than suffice. But if you live in a wildfire region, or have pets, or someone in your household smokes, or some neighbours have a wood fireplace or stove, try the new 311 Auto SmokeBlock filters, which feature a denser weave of smoke and odour absorbing activated carbon.
When used as part of a HEPASilent technology system (which also uses an ion generator to dramatically improve the likelihood of the negatively charged airborne particles 'sticking' to the filter), the standard main filter for Blueair's 311 Blue PURE Auto is designed to not only remove 99.97% of airborne particles (including dust, dander, pollen, mold spores, bacteria and viruses), but also many of the odors and chemical and gas emissions that afflict typical households, by using a combination of particle and activated carbon filters.
Or for even more smoke and odor protection, the activated carbon sheet in the centre of the new SmokeBlock filters is denser (it has more PPI/particles per inch), to remove 99.9% of wildfire emissions and to provide extra protection against other types of smoke, smog, toxic gasses, and odors from beings or activities like household pets or cooking.

How to Change Main Filters:
When the unit indicates it is time to replace the filter after about six months of continuous use (via a colour change on the speed indicator lights on top), it is not difficult to do.

Basically, you just have to unplug the unit; remove the fabric prefilter; push down slightly on the top portion of the air purifier, and turn it counterclockwise to remove the head; lift off the plastic filter retaining ring; hold the two pull tabs on top of the existing main filter, and lift it off the plastic frame it fits around. Then simply reverse that process with the new filter.
