Are you eating enough fibre? And are you eating enough kinds of fibre? Dietary fibres are complex carbohydrates such as cellulose which resist being broken down by digestive enzymes and thus get passed through the intestinal tract without being absorbed, but can have very constructive roles as they do. E.g., they can nearly all help make us feel full (since they expand when they get hydrated in the stomach), which can reduce overeating things which can cause unwanted weight gain. But not all dietary fibre is alike or has the same benefits. Fibre-Plex covers all the major bases, by combining a wide variety of insoluble, non-fermentable and soluble, fermentable natural fiber sources.

Product Notes:

Some types of dietary fibre are Soluble in water, which enables them to get fermented in the colon to some extent... which can then lower the pH (acidity) level in the colon and help produce short chain fatty acids, which can not only help the intestinal microflora there (which can increase absorption of nutrients), but also help the colon absorb more water and improve the health of the mucosal cells there, which can help move things along.

Other types are Insoluble and do not get fermented in the colon well, so they end up not only providing bulk for the stools but also softening them by helping bind water to them.

And still other types help digestion in other ways by binding dietary cholesterol and bile acids in the intestine, which assists cholesterol metabolism.

Notes on the Individual Ingredients:

Glucomannan is a partially fermentable, soluble fiber extracted from the konjac root (in the yam family). This hemicellulose fiber is noted for its high water-binding capacity, and may have a beneficial role in cholesterol metabolism.

Carrot and celery powders provide a rich array of soluble and insoluble dietary fibers, including cellulose, hemicellulose, pectin and lignin. Sodium alginate is a soluble partially fermentable fiber derived from seaweed.

Pectin is a soluble dietary fiber noted for its ability to provide beneficial short chain fatty acids for the colon. FiberPlex provides both types of naturally occurring pectins: high- and low-methoxyl pectins.

Slippery elm powder supplies a number of gums and mucilages that are important for the mucous lining of the gastrointestinal tract.
