Product Notes:

Probiotics not only bolster the immune response in various ways, as you might expect, but also work to prevent infections by 'heading them off at the pass' -- by battling the viruses for dominance right where they enter our bodies, through the membranes of our mouth, ears, nose, and lungs.

Most people realize by now that probiotics can help with digestive issues, and may even know they can help regulate the immune system, as well. But it's not as well known that beneficial bacterial are not confined to the gastrointestinal tract -- certain types can make their way to and reside in other areas, including our outer skin and inner membranes, where they can help protect us against infectious organisms right at their point of entry into our bodies by 'crowding them out' and preventing them from taking root or attaching to certain receptors.

Clinical studies have shown probiotics can help with URTI's. For example, one showed trained athletes had less than half as many URTI's compared to the placebo group. And a meta-analysis of many such studies involving a total of 6,239 children found that children taking probiotics suffered fewer days with URTI's and that those who did develop URTI's were absent from school or day care for fewer days while having them compared to those on placebos.
