This system features a dual gradient 50/05 micron sediment filter; a special radial flow iron reduction filter; and a final two-stage filter utilizing granulated activated carbon and 5 pounds of KDF-85 media -- a copper and zinc formulation that uses the principle of electrochemical oxidation reduction (known as the redox process or redox reaction) to eliminate a vast number of contaminants.

In addition to reducing iron levels, this system ensures up to 99% reduction of lead, chlorine, heavy metals, silver, aluminum, arsenic, cadmium, copper, nickel, zinc, chromium, barium, hydrogen sulfide, radon, selenium, mercury, trihalomethanes, algae, manganese, chloroform, trichloroethane, lindane, pesticides, fungi, bad tastes and odors.

KDF media and granulated activated carbon have a synergistic effect when combined, making them more powerful than when either media is used alone, as the KDF media regenerates the adsorption capacity of the activated carbon. Replace this filter annually or after 100,000 gallons. The 20" filter design minimizes the water pressure drop that is common with many whole house filtration systems.

Please note, although the Whole House Iron Redox System inhibits the growth of bacteria within the KDF media of the filter itself, it does not kill waterborne bacteria or pathogens unless the germicidal ultraviolet unit is added. To treat water that is microbiologically unsafe to drink (i.e., contains E. coli or other bacteria), the 12 gallon per minute germicidal ultraviolet sterilization unit is recommended to sterilize the water and kill all pathogens (viruses and bacteria).

Alternatively, you can choose an OPUS drinking water system with either UV-C Sterilization or the NanoFiltration filter for drinking water that is microbiologically unsafe to drink.

The Total Dimensions of an OPUS Whole House System are as follows: 26-1/4 inches (66.67 cm) High [including both the 23-3/8" (59.37 cm) high filter canisters and the metal housing with the gauges on top]; 23-3/16" (58.9 cm) Wide; and 8-7/16" (21.43 cm) Deep.

The OPUS Whole House Water System includes a limited five year parts warranty to the original owner, with a one year warranty on the pressure gauges, conditional on reasonable maintenance (changing filters and O-rings, if required).

Design and Included Components:

The OPUS Whole House Iron Redox Water Filtration System consists of a three stage, 20" filter housing with three different types of filters in it, and three pressure gauges to assist in evaluating when pressure drops require sediment filter changes. It is designed to be installed right where water enters the home (at the inflow pipe).

The three 20-inch filters it includes are as follows:

• Stage 1 – Dual Gradient 50/5 Micron Polypropylene Dirt/Rust/Sediment Filter:
This filter is designed to remove dirt, rust, sediment, and particulate matter down to 5 microns, to ensure optimum performance of the Stage 2 Radial Flow Iron Filter, and the Stage 3 & 4 KDF-85 / GAC filter.

• Stage 2 – Radial Flow Iron Reduction Filter:
Designed as an easy and effective method of reducing dissolved iron, helping to eliminate the orange and brown stains found in sinks, toilets, tubs and other plumbing fixtures. This filter also reduces the possibility of damage to pipes and water heaters, and reduces up to 3 ppm dissolved iron. No harmful chemicals are added to the water, making it completely safe for drinking water applications. Improves the flavor of water, while reducing the metallic taste iron can cause.

• Stage 3 – KDF85/GAC (Granulated Activated Carbon)
KDF85 media utilizes the principal of electrochemical oxidation reduction to reduce dissolved iron and hydrogen sulfide odor. A perfect complement to the Radial Flow Iron Reduction filter (Stage 2), this filter provides effective iron and hydrogen sulfide filtration, for water with less than 3 PPM dissolved iron. The activated carbon also improves water clarity and taste, while eliminating odors. Rated for 100,000 gallons, or one year of residential use.
