While some forms of birch juice are produced from the sap of the tree (à la maple syrup), this type is made from the leaves. Birch leaf juice or tea has a long history of traditional medicinal uses in Northern regions of the world, principally as a mild diuretic, to help counteract fluid retention or edema or flush out toxins; or as an anti- inflammatory agent, to help combat ailments which may be affecting the urinary tract or bladder (including small kidney stones), as well as the digestive or respiratory systems; or even to relieve gout, rheumatic pain, or swollen, painful joints.
