Peeling with a knife is possible, but it can be difficult and dangerous, and you need different knives for different types of products.
The Swissmar 3-piece Classic Peeler Set provides three very sharp, specifically-designed peelers for various jobs.
These trios each contain three peelers with their Classic Y-Shaped handles, with each having a dedicated Scalpel, Serrated or Julienne Blade.
They have been available in two types of bundles.
The first is more visually attractive, and may be preferable if this is to be a gift: the peelers comes attached to a wide cardboard holder which shows the appropriate cut and type of peel seemingly coming out of the blades, and has more instructions. The colours of the handles are called Curry, Green, and Spice, as shown.
The handles in the other set are in Swissmar's Tropical Green, White, and Turquoise colours. These three peelers come together in a stack, bound only by a plastic cable zip tie through their hanging loop, with no additional packaging apart from some removable stickers which list their functions and which types of fruit or vegetables to use them on. This set does have a removable protective cover for the blades of all three peelers, however, whereas the other set only provides one.
In addition to their main blades, each peeler also has a side cutter that can remove potato eyes and blemishes, or cut grooves in fruits and vegetables.
All the peelers are suitable for either left handed or right handed use.
The serrated blade tool can quickly peel thin-skinned fruits such as peaches or mangoes, or vegetables such as carrots or zucchinis, and the julienne bladed tool can then cut those vegetables into strands with simple strokes. The tool with the scalpel blade can be used for peeling harder fruits and vegetables such as apples, potatoes or squash, or for shaving thin slices of hard cheeses or chocolate. Work goes quicker when you use the right tool for the job, and this inexpensive trio of high quality tools will make your fresh food preparation go much quicker, indeed.
