Unlike other types of pain and inflammation relievers such as NSAIDs that mainly inhibit COX-1 and COX-2 enzymes – which can end up damaging the lining of the stomach or intestines – Boswellia is mainly a LOX-5 inhibitor (which targets the 5-lipoxygenase enzyme) and also decreases the activity of another pro-inflammatory enzyme, HLE (human leukocyte elastase), which aren't associated with those unsafe side effects.
Boswellia is a genus of over 20 types of trees growing in dry mountainous regions of the Arabian Peninsula, India, and Northern Africa, whose bark produces gum resins which have been scraped off to be used as a key part of traditional medicine for thousands of years, either as the well-known essential oil fragrance called frankincense (which comes from four species), or in extracts to treat various types of inflammatory conditions including asthma, gastrointestinal problems, and joint pain and rheumatism.
This latter type comes from Boswellia serrata trees – the kind used in almost every clinical study involving boswellia extracts – grown in northwest India under the supervision of their Department of Forestry, which controls harvest frequency to ensure sustainability.
Boswellia has been used in traditional medicine to help relieve swelling, joint pain, arthritis, and other inflammatory conditions for millennia. Ongoing medical research has isolated boswellic acid as its active ingredient which works by inhibiting enzymes involved in triggering inflammation, and revealed that it has at least six constituents of varying effectiveness, plus one (beta-boswellic acid) that can actually be counter-productive, which is why this type isolates the three most active kinds.

Each softgel contains:
500 mg Boswellia serrata (Boswellia [BosPure®]) 10:1 gum oleoresin extract, dried equivalent 5000 mg, providing 40% Boswellic acids, standardized to provide >10% 3-Acetyl-11-keto-beta-boswellic acid (AKBA)
Non-medicinal ingredients: Sunflower oil, Gelatin, Glycerin, Purified water, Beeswax yellow, Annatto extract.
Suggested Usage:
Adults: Take 1 softgel twice daily. Use for a minimum of 2 months to see beneficial effects. Store in a cool, dry place at room temperature.
