Product Notes:

With just one package, you can make six litres of homemade of kefir. Probiotics can help reduce the effects of lactose intolerance, support digestion and your immune system.

Each box contains three 'sheets' of packets, with each sheet consisting of two packets, which can be detached individually, to produce, 6 litres each.

Until very recently, each individual packet weighed 5 grams, with the bulk of that weight being skim milk powder, the excipient or medium the active bacterial culture was suspended in. We still have a limited quantity of this type left: they come in the blue boxes pictures. However, Yogourmet has retooled their production of both the product itself (beginning in Spring 2021, the probiotics are now in a base of maltodextrin), such that each packet only weigh 3 grams (but can still produce exactly the same amount of kefir), and its packaging (which now comes in a different shaped and colored box, as shown in the second photo). We will begin shipping those as soon as the original type is sold out, so if you order a number at once, it is possible you will receive some of each type.

Ingredients:

Current type: Active bacterial culture (includes lactic yeasts), skim milk powder. Freeze-dried.

Forthcoming type: Kefir grains, maltodextrin (non-GMO) and Active bacterial cultures (L. lactis, L. cremoris, L. diacetylactis, L. acidophilus, S. cerevisiae, K. lactis). Contains: Milk

Suggested Usage:

Refrigeration is recommended for the box / unused packets to preserve their active bacterial culture.

Use one packet of starter per litre or quart of milk.

Heat milk to 180F (82C) or bring to boiling point. Cool to 73-77F (23-25C). Dissolve one packet of culture in a small amount of the cooled milk in a cup. Pour back into the litre or quart and mix well. Pour the inoculated milk into a clean container, cover and let stand at room temperature until curd forms (approximately 24 hours). Refrigerate about 8 hours to stop that process. Stir to liquefy and enjoy. Keep kefir refrigerated.
