Yohimbine is a compound derived from yohimbe, a bark extract from trees found in South America and Africa. Sometimes called quebrachine, yohimbine is classified as a prescription drug in Canada and is not available in any dietary supplements licensed for sale by Health Canada.
Sold for use as an aphrodisiac and sexual performance enhancer in some markets, Health Canada prohibits its sale as a supplement and states that the drug should be used only under the strict supervision of a health care professional.
Yohimbine is also used in veterinary practice to reverse sedation animals. In people, use of yohimbine or yohimbe may potentially result in serious adverse reactions.
