As its formulator Dr. Elie Klein explains here in this initial video, this natural product featuring a combination of antioxidant and anti-inflammatory agents was developed to help with cases of Non-Alcoholic Fatty Liver Disease which may have been at least partly brought on by overusing certain types of vegetable oils (particularly seed oils with a lot of Omega-6's: a point addressed in more detail in the second video).

Product Notes:

Although it usually goes on for quite some time with no signs or symptoms other than protruding belly fat, Non-Alcoholic Fatty Liver Disease (or NAFLD, also known as non-alcoholic steatohepatitis, or NASH) occurs when too much fat is being stored in the cells of the liver, instead of only in other parts of the body, due to causes other than excess alcohol consumption. If it progresses too far, those cells can get damaged, and the liver can develop scar tissue and have impaired functioning, and you may experience symptoms such as fatigue, lethargy, and an ache or discomfort on the right side of your abdomen, just below the ribs.

A number of factors have been implicated in contributing to NAFLD, including excessive sugar and carbohydrate consumption. But one possible culprit is over-consuming certain industrially produced food seed oils (not only in our own cooking, but in processed foods) that have more Omega-6 polyunsaturated fatty acids than we tend to need, which end up producing inflammation and oxidative stress. (Some indicate the types to be avoided include canola, corn, sunflower, and safflower oil, in contrast to types which won't aggravate the condition such as pure virgin olive oil or coconut oil or avocado oil, or actual animal fats such as butter, ghee, beef tallow, or bacon grease).

To counteract the damage that may have been caused by those seed oil and/or processed food consumption and protect the liver's cells, this formula (which is named after one of its most effective ingredients for this purpose: alpha-Lipoic acid) assembles a number of vitamins and herbs which either have antioxidant or anti-inflammatory properties (or both), or which assist the liver in ridding itself of some of the harmful lipids it has been storing.
