Dermaplaning treatments can cost hundreds of dollars if done by a licensed esthetician or dermatologist (despite only taking about half an hour). Now you can do it with care at home with these simple but effective tools from Relaxus Beauty.

Product Notes:

Dermaplaning is a relatively new type of beauty routine involving the use of sharp tools to shave away the fine facial hairs and remove the outer layer of skin, in order to stimulate cell regeneration; enhance the absorption of facial creams or serums; and literally smooth your complexion.

In today's 'high-def' world with so many of us sharing photos and interacting through video calls, the fine hairs on our cheeks, upper lip, and elsewhere are more noticeable than ever, even with (sometimes even especially with!) makeup. Those vellus hairs (also known as "peach fuzz") can not only detract from our appearance in their own right, but also trap dirt and oil, giving our skin a dull look.

In addition, both those hairs and the outer layer of skin can not only obscure your otherwise clear complexion, but also in essence rob you of some of the products you apply to your skin, either by needlessly absorbing them themselves (the hairs) or by impeding their absorption (the outer layer of dead skin). Scraping those both away at once solves both those problems, to help reveal a brighter, more youthful-looking complexion.

What's Included in the Package:

Two larger exfoliation tools for shaving and exfoliating larger surface areas such as the neck and chin area and the cheeks.

Two smaller exfoliation tools for those harder-to-reach areas such as the upper lip and along the brow line.

Two standard protective covers to facilitate safe and convenient storage of the larger tools.

Two protective covers for the smaller tools, with a comb on their back face and brush bristles on their front, which can be used for grooming the eyebrows and brushing away stray hairs.

Suggested Usage:

Dermaplaning should not be done too frequently; it is recommended that you wait at least 6 weeks between intervals. If you have not undergone the procedure yet, you should also "patch test," first (as explained in the Warnings section).

There are plenty of videos available on YouTube, Instagram, and elsewhere showing how to dermaplane effectively, but the gist of it is simply to use the dermablades to scrape the various parts of your face at a 45 degree angle (gliding along *with* the grain/direction of the hair growth, rather than against them), and pausing after every few strokes to wipe the residue off onto a tissue or cloth.

Some individual tips provided by Relaxus Beauty for this particular product are as follows:

1. Disinfect the blades before each use, by soaking them in rubbing alcohol for about 3 to 5 minutes and letting them air dry.

2. To gauge how much pressure is needed to used these tools, test them on the back of your hand before using them on your face.

3. Start with a clean, dry face. Some advise that you clean *twice* before proceeding: once to remove all the makeup, and then again to clean the skin.

4. Brush against the skin to shave hair and remove dead skin cells. Shave in the same direction as the hair growth (if there are some laying down). Do not go over the same areas more than once.

5. Apply gentle pressure, but do not force.

6. For best results, apply a layer of serum and/or cream onto your face, after you are done dermaplaning.

7. Clean the blade(s) again and leave them to air dry.

8. Once they are dry, place a protective cover over the top of the blade and safely store them away.

Warnings:

Dermaplaning is not recommended for everyone. Some caution that those with a sunburn or a deep tan should refrain from doing it until those fade, as should those with an active acne breakout, or if their rosacea is flaring.

Similarly, those with inflammatory skin conditions such as eczema or psoriasis should probably avoid it, and if you are prone to cold sores, be advised that a skin irritation procedure like this could possibly reactivate the virus responsible for cold sores.

To ensure that your skin can tolerate this practice, you should "patch test" first, by doing just a small surface area of your neck or face to start with and waiting up to 48 hours to gauge its reaction, especially if you have sensitive skin. Then do a slightly larger area, and wait another day or two, before proceeding to do your entire face for the first time. Contact a medical professional if you have any medical conditions or concerns.

Many also counsel that you should be doubly sure to either stay out of the sun or use sunscreens, especially for the first couple of days after the procedure.
