A healthy gastrointestinal tract is populated by trillions of microbes, from over 1,000 different species of bacteria alone (plus an array of fungi, protozoa and viruses) – many of them good for us (primarily by helping our digestion and stimulating our immune system, which is mostly located there), and some not so good for us.
Not everyone develops or sustains an optimal balance of "good" vs. "bad" microbes in their entire microbiome collection, however, whether due to the circumstances of their initial delivery of if they were bottle or breast fed, or if they take antibiotics, among other things.
Probiotics are live microorganisms (usually, but not always, specific types of bacteria) which can benefit our health, either by enhancing immune cell function, or competing with and crowding out the unhealthy types of microorganisms, or even breaking down the toxins produced by harmful bacteria.
This probiotic formula from Metagenics features equal measures of two highly viable strains of bacteria which have established health benefits and have been scientifically tested in children: one from the B. lactis type (which can help nutrient absorption and break down wastes); the other a member of the L. acidophilus type (which takes root in the small intestine and helps us absorb nutrients and digest dairy products).
Studies have shown the combination of these particular strains can help reduce bloating, and helps reduce the duration of common cold symptoms such as cough, fever or runny nose in children.

Non-medicinal ingredients: Xylitol, D-sorbitol, cellulose, natural colours (hibiscus, purple and black carrot juice), natural cranberry flavour, natural grape flavour, citric acid, DL-malic acid, natural flavour, stearic acid (vegetable source), magnesium stearate (vegetable source), and silicon dioxide.

Suggested Usage:
Children (3 years and older): Take 2 tablets once daily, or as directed by your healthcare practitioner. If the recipient is on antibiotics, take the probiotic tablets at least 2 to 3 hours apart from (that is, either before or after) them.
Warnings:
Do not use Metagenics Meta Kids Probiotics if the child has an immune compromised condition (e.g. AIDS, lymphoma, patients undergoing long-term corticosteroid treatment). Consult a healthcare practitioner prior to use if there is nausea, fever, vomiting, bloody diarrhea or severe abdominal pain. Discontinue use and consult a healthcare practitioner if symptoms of digestive upset (e.g. diarrhea) occur, worsen, or persist beyond 3 days.
Keep away from dogs, because it contains Xylitol.
