Oneka shampoos and conditioners feature a complete absence of irritating synthetic ingredients and a wide range of organic plant-based ingredients carefully selected for their cleansing, nourishing, strengthening, and soothing effects and abilities to impart glow and shine in the hair and invigorate the pores of the scalp.
Product Notes:
Available either in the almost completely odor-free Unscented variety for those with a particularly sensitive hair or scalp; or in a delicate Lavender and Angelica aroma blend; a rich, earthy Cedar & Sage scent; or a rejuvenating Citrus and Goldenseal blend.
Named after the Mohawk word for water (Ohne:ka), Oneka is a Canadian company based in Frelighsburg, Quebec (south-east of Montreal, near the Vermont border), where its founders Philippe Choiniere and Stacey Lecuyer have been running an organic farm to grow many of the ingredients for their personal care products since 2008.
There are no sulfates, parabens or synthetic fragrances in these products, which use easily biodegradable ingredients that won't adversely affect the waterways or the water table. And although the bottles themselves are plastic, they are of course recyclable, and Oneka has a funding arrangement with a Vancouver-based international environmental organization called Plastic Bank to support the local collection of three comparably-sized plastic bottles (from any company) that have accumulated on the coastal regions of four different parts of the world (Brasil, Egypt, Philippines, Indonesia), for every single 500ml Oneka product sold.

ONEKA SHAMPOO
These four shampoos all share the same base formula as the Unscented type:
Purified water; an Organic blend of Calendula officinalis (Calendula), Arctium lappa (Burdock root), Salvia officinalis (Sage), Urtica dioica (Nettle leaves), Rosmarinus officinalis (Rosemary), Taraxacum officinale (Dandelion), Equisetum arvense (Horsetail), Angelica archangelica (Angelica), Hydrastis canadensis (Goldenseal); Sodium C14-16 olefin sulfonate; Cocamidopropyl betaine; Coco-glucoside; Glyceryl oleate; Lauryl glucoside; Decyl glucoside; Glycerin; Panthenol (Vitamin B5); Caprylyl glycol; Ethylhexylglycerin; Polyquaternium-10; Hydrolyzed rice protein; and Cannabis sativa (Hemp seed oil).
(These may be presented in a different order on some bottles, however: those explicitly using the INCI (International Nomenclature of Cosmetic Ingredients) convention, where instead of grouping the Organic blend all together as the second most voluminous ingredient, they are scattered throughout the list of all ingredients with at least 1% of the volume in descending order of their individual contributions.)
Where they vary is simply in the final ingredient(s) giving each type its characteristic scent (and name):
Angelica & Lavender type: Essential oil of Lavandula angustifolia (Lavender).
Cedar & Sage type: Essential oil blend of Melaleuca alternifolia (Tea tree), Citrus reticulata (Mandarin orange), Thuja occidentalis (Cedar), Betula alleghaniensis (Yellow birch), Tsuga canadensis (Hemlock).
Goldenseal & Citrus type: Essential oil blend of Citrus paradisi (Grapefruit), Citrus reticulata blanco var tangerine (Tangerine) and Cananga odorata (Ylang-ylang).
ONEKA CONDITIONER
Similarly, the four conditioners all share the same base formula as this Unscented type, except for the addition of the above essential oil ingredients (which are listed just before the final two ingredients, in the scented types). On some labels, these are listed with all the organic plant extracts grouped together as the second ingredient, as follows (but on others, as with the shampoos, they will appear in a different order if the ingredient list is preceded by the INCI acronym):
