Certified Naturals Boswellia is a clinically proven form which uses all 11 major Boswellic acids, enveloped in plant-based delivery system containing fat, to protect the boswellia from being damaged by water in the stomach and to enable it to be absorbed by the cell membranes in the intestinal tract to get passed into the bloodstream more efficiently.

Product Notes:

Boswellia has been used to help relieve swelling, joint pain, arthritis, and other inflammatory conditions for millennia. Research has shown its primary active ingredient is boswellic acid, and revealed that has at least eleven constituents, which may work best in conjunction.

Boswellia is a genus of over 20 types of trees growing in dry mountainous regions of the Arabian Peninsula, India, and Northern Africa, whose bark produces gum resins which have been scraped off to be used as a key part of traditional medicine for thousands of years, either as the well-known essential oil fragrance called frankincense (which comes from four species), or in extracts to treat various types of inflammatory conditions including asthma, gastrointestinal problems, and joint pain and rheumatism.

The latter type comes from Boswellia serrata trees – the kind used in almost every clinical study involving boswellia extracts – many of which are grown in northwest India under the supervision of their Department of Forestry, which controls harvest frequency to ensure sustainability.

Studies show boswellia works by inhibiting certain enzymes involved in triggering inflammation. But unlike other types of pain and inflammation relievers such as NSAIDs that mainly inhibit COX-1 and COX-2 enzymes – which can end up damaging the lining of the stomach or intestines – thankfully, it turns out Boswellia is mainly a LOX-5 inhibitor (which targets the 5-lipoxygenase enzyme) and also decreases the activity of another pro-inflammatory enzyme, HLE (human leukocyte elastase), which aren't associated with those unsafe side effects.

This version from Certified Naturals uses patented process to 'complex' or unite a full Boswellia extract with sunflower lecithin, to make it more bioavailable. The lecithin not only prevents the Boswellic acids from being degraded by any water it might encounter during the digestive process, but also helps shuttle them through the intestinal tract much more efficiently, such that up to 3 or 4 times more ends up in circulating in the blood and to the joints, compared to standard Boswellia extracts.

Moreover, not only does this type get better absorbed (so you waste less), but it also gets absorbed faster (so you get pain relief sooner), and it also stays in your system longer (so you only need to take it once a day).
