New! The individual cells of our bodies have 'housecleaning' functions to regenerate their worn out parts and protect them from free radicals that can accelerate the process of aging, but they rely heavily on an enzyme that we produce a great deal less of, as we age. This new formula - the first of its kind in Canada - combines two natural substances to boost the production of that crucial enzyme and support the healthy longevity of our cells and the organs and capacities they sustain.

Product Notes:

The cells of our body are a little like self-cleaning ovens, which periodically clear out the grime and debris which can impair their functioning by cranking up the heat.

Of course, that takes energy, and to help produce, store, and regulate the use that energy to achieve cellular repair, our cells rely on a critical coenzyme called NAD+, which also assists with communication between cells and organs.

For cells, the grime and debris to be cleared out includes reactive oxygen species (i.e., oxidants, which can damage DNA and trigger cell death) that are either encountered as environmental or internal stressors or released as waste products of the cellular mitochondria's metabolic activities, as well as actual parts of the cell (whether simpler molecules or more complex functioning 'organelles') that can become worn-out, dysfunctional, or dead.

Trouble is, we produce less of that NAD+ as we age (up to half as much in our middle age compared to below the age of 40, which makes it harder much harder for our cells to go about their daily business of metabolizing energy to form tissues, effect DNA repair, and prevent age-linked changes in gene expression.

Of course, the immediate impulse would simply be to supplement with NAD (nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide) to restore the balance. However, that is a problematic solution, not only because it's quite difficult to keep it stable (it degrades), but also because our digestive systems just break it down into its constituent parts, forcing our bodies to rebuild it, anyway.

NMN

Fortunately, there is a way around that, by supplying a precursor to it: i.e., one of the molecules our bodies construct from those constituents on the way to the final result. NMN (nicotinamide mononucleotide), an active form of vitamin B3, is one such precursor.

Preclinical trials have indicated it has a cardioprotective effect, with no significant adverse effects, and animal studies show it's rapidly absorbed, and can lower the inflammation in adipose (fat) tissues associated with age, and could slow cognitive decline associated with Alzheimer's.

Wheat Germ - Spermidine

The other major component of this anti-aging formula from Advanced Orthomolecular Research (AOR) is Wheat Germ, which contains a kindred compound called spermidine. Spermidine is one of several types of "polyamine" molecules our bodies use which can also assist in cellular (ATP) energy production and help with the processes of cell growth and repair, partly by helping to induce "autophagy," which involves identifying and internally walling off defective parts of a cell in need of being broken down and recycled.

As with NAD+, the levels of these polyamines decline with age, while supplementing with spermadine in particular has been shown to improve the health and lifespan of individual cells and to reduce inflammation, improve cardiovascular health, and have neuroprotective effects at the systemic level.
