Botanical Sleep Blend with GABA
There can be many reasons for being unable to get to or stay sleep – either psychological, physiological, or both – and we don't always know which aspects are the most operative at any given time. So to cover all three bases at once, this formulation combines several ingredients to help calm the mind, relax the body, and promote naturally drifting off into a restful sleep, even if the difficulty may be due to menopause rather than to other types of stress.
Several of these ingredients appear individually in some of NOW's other products, with two of them (Valerian and GABA) also being in a True Calm combination designed more for daytime use. Valerian and Hops are both traditional herbs that have been used for many generations to reduce nervousness and restlessness; promote a calm, relaxed state; and support a rejuvenating sleep.
These natural sedatives are often paired together, because they have slightly different but complementary effects, with valerian being a bit more geared to alleviating anxiety, and the hops to irritability, and the hops appear to be able to help lower our body temperature, which can induce drowsiness and make it easier to remain asleep. They both influence the activity of GABA, an amino acid which functions as an inhibitory neurotransmitter, when it is produced naturally in the brain, and which can ease nervous tension, when taken as a supplement derived from a fermented food, like this.
The final ingredient is Passionflower, which also has a calming effect and is used to alleviate agitation, anxiety, and restlessness, and has also been associated with providing insomnia relief due to menopause.

300 mg Valerian Root Extract (Valerian officinalis) (min. 0.8% Valeric Acids)
150 mg Hops (Humulus lupulus) (4:1 Extract) (Strobiles)
100 mg Passionflower Extract (Passiflora incarnata) (Aerial Parts)
100 mg GABA (Gamma Aminobutyric Acid)
Non-medicinal ingredients: Veg. Capsule (hypromellose, water), Ascorbyl Palmitate, Silica.
This is both a vegetarian and a vegan product that is also Kosher and Halal, and which contains no dairy, eggs, soy, nuts, or gluten. All its ingredients are non-GMO. NOW Foods tests ingredients for identity, potency, purity including adulterants, heavy metals and microbiological contaminants.
Suggested Usage:
Adults: Take 2 capsules, once daily, one hour before bedtime, as needed.
