MaxMethyl provides nutrients to help form red blood cells, encourages collagen formation, and helps protect blood vessels from damage. Advanced Orthomolecular Research Inc.'s unique methylating agents and co-factors help regulate toxic homocysteine levels, making it an effective supplement for supporting cardiovascular health. It also supplies the most biologically active form of folic acid -- the best type for those who are pregnant or trying to conceive -- and is guaranteed to have at least 99% of the purest form of that (L-5-MTHF, with less than 1% D-5-MTHF).

Product Notes:

"Methylation" is one of those natural protective functions our bodies quietly carry out in the background without our realizing it: when our cells break down Methionine (an amino acid from food protein) to produce essential nucleic acids, fats and high-energy bonds, a different type of amino acid, Homocysteine, initially gets produced in the process, and most of it in turn usually gets rapidly metabolized either by being converted into cysteine with the help of vitamin B6, or by being regenerated into a more usable form of methionine with the help of vitamin B12 and folate. If that doesn't happen and too much homocysteine builds up in the body, that appears to increase the risks of deregulated lipid metabolism (how fats are either stored or broken down for energy); impaired ability to recover from blood vessel lining injuries; or developing atherosclerosis or blood clots which might lead to strokes; among other things. Other risks of elevated Homocysteine levels may include bone loss, joint degradation, mood imbalances and cognitive decline.

Most people don't get enough of those specific nutrients that support methylation (those three B-Vitamins and their cofactor for methylation, trimethylglycine) from their diets, particularly the elderly, and even younger people who exercise a lot may have higher homocysteine levels, so MaxMethyl is a logical choice for those know they have high homocysteine levels or who want supplementary support against a number of cardiovascular diseases and age-related degenerative conditions of the bones, joints, nerves and cognitive function.
