This cacao butter is produced from a unique type of cacao species called Criollo, sourced from the Cusco region of Peru, where the cacao pods are hand-selected and the beans and their fatty content (which becomes the butter) are fermented and dried to perfection at low temperatures to maximize their quality and taste and maintain their nutritional integrity. Product Notes:
You're likely familiar with the fact that fine chocolate has a high Cocoa Content, and that raw cacao beans are rich in phytonutrients called flavonoids which have antioxidant properties and are thought to be able to benefit our cardiovascular and cognitive systems as well as our mood. So how'd you like some 100% Cocoa Content?
Cacao Butter makes a terrific base for chocolate dishes, of course, but can also make a great addition to many other desserts, or even bring an intriguing taste and aroma to salty dishes. It can also be used as a skin moisturizer, which may help reduce the appearance of stretch marks.
Note, according to one source, Criollo cacao is "low in classic chocolate flavour, but rich in secondary notes of long duration," and although it is relatively rare (because hard to grow), it is a prized ingredient in the very finest types of chocolate.
