Liquid laundry detergent typically comes in large plastic jugs. But waste plastic is becoming a tremendous burden on our ecosystem, and even where there are recycling programs in effect, many do not actually recycle the heavy grade plastic those jugs are made of. Even if they do, they require thoroughly cleaning before they'll even be accepted - otherwise, it's straight to the landfill. Plus, they take up a lot of space, they're heavy to transport and lug around, and can get quite messy. Detergent sheets solve all those problems, and more.
Founded by two women in Vancouver, Good Juju is a small Canadian company specializing in natural eco-friendly products for the Body & Home. When they learned that there were concerns that one of the main ingredients in these types of products, PVA (polyvinyl alcohol: a water-soluble, non-toxic synthetic plastic polymer used as a coating to help hold laundry sheets and dishwasher pods together) might not always fully dissolve in the washing and thus could find its way into the wastewater and ultimately into waterways or even our food supply (from sewage sludge transformed into fertilizer), they took it to heart. They reformulated their sheets with a type of PVA that has as been tested and verified by third parties to be fully biodegradable in wastewater, making them the ONLY certified biodegradable laundry sheets on the Canadian market!
Good Juju Laundry Detergent Sheets Ingredients:
Each sheet (which is about 8 inches tall and 6 inches wide) contains:
Certified Biodegradable PVA; Alkyl glycoside; Fatty Alcohol Polyoxyethylene Ether; Sodium Fatty Acid Methyl Ester Sulfonate; Glycerin; Sodium Alpha Olefin Sulfonate; Starch; Silicon Dioxide; Bentonite; Sodium Bicarbonate; Sodium Citrate; Protease Subtilisin A; Scent (ONLY in the Lavender type); Water; and Cellulase Enzyme.
Free of: Formaldehyde; 1,4 Dioxane; SLA; and Phthalates.
Suggested Usage:
For regular loads, remove one strip from the box, tear it into pieces and toss them directly into the washer's main drum (not the soap drawer), when it's empty. (Scatter them a bit.) Then add the clothes and select and start your wash cycle as normal (the strips dissolve completely in all normal washer water temperatures).
If it's a lighter load, just use half a strip (just cut it in half with scissors). For heavy or extra-dirty loads, use at least one full strip, and consider adding a partial second one.
Warnings:
This soap is not too caustic to handle without gloves, and is even safe to wash your hands in when dissolved. But always keep soaps, laundry detergent, and other cleaning products away from pets and small children, as they contain ingredients which may cause eye irritation, and they should certainly not be ingested.
If they DO get swallowed somehow, do not induce vomiting, but do have them drink a glass of water, and seek immediate medical attention. If it gets in the eyes, flush with water for 15 minutes.
