Info: 25 ml Bottle

Emu Oil contains Oleic (Omega-9), Palmitic, Linoleic (Omega-6) and many other types of fatty acids, in a similar ratio as our oil in our own skin. It works very well as a skin moisturizer and softener - leaving a protective barrier on the outer layer while penetrating deep into the lower layers - and also has strong anti-inflammatory properties, which can speed up wound healing (especially if applied about two days after, when the acute inflammation first begins to subside).

Product Notes:

Emus are the slightly smaller Australian counterparts to the African ostriches (i.e., giant, flightless birds). Just as the indigenous people of Canada's north have used the oil rendered from whale and seal blubber to help heal their own wounds and skin conditions, Indigenous Australians have used the large fat deposits from emus to soothe and treat a variety of skin ailments such as dryness, cuts, burns, wounds, and impetigo (red, itchy sores).

Other common topical uses today include on the scalp, either for seborrheic dermatitis (dandruff) or to promote growth; to reduce pain and cracking on the nipples, after breastfeeding (but not during: best to wipe it off while doing it); to relieve itchy and inflamed skin conditions like eczema, or tattoo scabs or scars; and even to relieve joint pain, like arthritis. It's also used as a carrier oil to improve the delivery and efficacy of other skin care ingredients.

In its initial state, freshly rendered emu oil is somewhat yellow or red in colour; has a stronger odour, even after it's been filtered prior to bottling; and can become oxidized relatively quickly after opening. This type has undergone several types of refining procedures beyond mere filtration to improve its colour (almost white), clarity, purity and shelf life (6 months after opening).

Ingredients:

Refined Emu Oil: no other ingredients.

Suggested Usage:

Massage three to four drops of oil into the skin as needed. (It is not recommended for conditions where there is still a poisonous substance actually on your skin that could be carried deeper into the skin such as poison ivy or poison oak infections, however.)
