Product Notes:
InnoTech's Smart Sweetener is a combination of three sweet-tasting alternatives to sucrose, with a little harmless silica (aka silicon dioxide: the stuff that makes up 95% of rocks) blended in to maintain its fine consistency despite the humidity it will get exposed to every time the jar is opened.
You've likely already heard of the last one in this context: Stevia (Stevia rebaudiana) plants, whose leaves contain some ultra-sweet yet zero calorie compounds called steviol glycosides, that can be extracted in isolation from the more bitter parts of that plant; it's featured as the primary ingredient in entire lines of natural sweetener products.
The first two, Inulin and FOS, are better known as types of fibre. The first is usually derived from the chicory plant, while the other is actually an important component of not only inulin but a variety of other fiber-rich plants, such as asparagus, bananas, or, in this case, cane sugar: a short-chain molecule known as fructooligosaccharides (FOS).
Those particular ingredients are often marketed either as a stand-alone dietary fibre (to help control body weight and to help regulate cholesterol and glucose levels and of course bowel movements), or as an adjunct to probiotic formulations (to help sustain the live strains both before and after they get ingested).
Although they're both water soluble (which of course we'd want for something to distribute evenly throughout our cup of coffee, e.g.), they're also difficult to digest, which is how they're able to bounce around our digestive tract accomplishing other things than providing actual nourishment, such as functioning as a prebiotic: stimulating the growth of friendly intestinal flora in order to support good colon health and better digestion, nutrient absorption, and immune system health.
But they're also both sweet-tasting, as it turns out, which is why they're here: the "F" part of "FOS" is short for fructose, the sugar found primarily in fruits, because they're short chains of fructose units; and inulin (which belongs to the oligosaccharide group) is a fructan, which also involves chains of fructose molecules.
Between the three of them, there are only 10 calories in every 5 grams of powder, and they all have a low glycemic index so they won't induce sharp changes in blood sugar levels or fuel more sugar cravings the way refined sugar can. So go ahead: indulge a little.
Ingredients:
Fructooligosaccharides (scFOS), Inulin, Stevia Extract (Stevia rebaudiana) (Leaf), Silica.
Non-GMO. This is a vegan and gluten-free product that is also both Keto and Fasting Friendly, and has no artificial flavours, sweeteners, or colours.
Suggested Usage:
You can use this anywhere you would regular table sugar, whether to sweeten beverages (use less than half as much as you would normally) or in recipes.
It is four times as sweet as ordinary table sugar by volume, so in recipes, each 10 grams per full tablespoon or scoop (provided) of Smart Sweetener replaces 40 grams of table sugar, and 5 tablespoons or scoops (50 grams) replaces 200 grams or 1 cup of sugar.
Store jar in a cool, dry place, and leave the silica desiccant packet in the jar to prevent clumping.
Warnings:
Do not use if you are pregnant or breastfeeding, or if you have low blood pressure.
