The Burgdorf might be thought of as more of a walking than a running shoe in terms of their appearance and intended use, but make no mistake, with their proprietary soles filled with shock-absorbing air pockets, they have plenty of cushioning at the main point of impact, which for them is not only at the heel but throughout. (Their soles are mostly flat, and there is deliberately no arch support, so that your weight gets distributed more evenly as you sink into the shoe with each step, rather than confining it to pressure points at the heels or balls of the feet.) And to provide a more comfortable foot climate, these soles also have a few dozen larger holes which push air up through the insole as you walk, to help keep them ventilated.
The majority of the uppers on these models are made of breathable mesh, which also dissipates heat. And to provide more strength as well as a complementary design element, their toe caps and heel tab and counters are made from similarly coloured soft leather.
Another popular kybun feature incorporated here is the zipper on the inner / medial side, which enables you to use it as more of a slip-on than a lace-up. (Once you've tied the laces properly the first time, you can just use the zipper to take them off, and then slip into them again and zip up without ever needing to tie or untie those laces again.)
