These Magnesium Bath Flakes are dried chips of magnesium chloride and other naturally occurring trace minerals that were created from magnesium oil sourced from the Ancient Zechstein Seabed in Europe (which is now up to 2 km below the surface). The flakes aren't very thick, so they can dissolve quicker, and are about as big as dried coconut flakes (about half a cm wide & 1 cm long). There are 15 grams of elemental magnesium per cup of flakes.
Just as previous generations used Epsom salt baths for some ailments, many people are now using an alternate source of magnesium salts to try to improve skin hydration and wound healing, decrease inflammation, or relieve skin conditions like psoriasis or eczema.
The magnesium in these flakes is not as pure as what is found in Ancient Minerals Sprays and Lotions. There will be some cloudiness and tint in the water when they are dissolved, due to a small amount of MgCl2 decomposing to MgOHCl (magnesium hydroxide chloride), MgCO3 (magnesium carbonate) and HCl (hydrochloric acid), and some elements such as iron being released (which are filtered out of the oils and lotion).
