Hand crafted and beautifully decorated by Japanese artists, the DoMatcha ceremonial bowls can be used both for Matcha preparation (providing enough room for the proper whisking method to create a frothier finish) and as drinking bowls. With its more open shape, this Deep Ocean (black) bowl, would traditionally be used in the summer. This glazed ceramic bowl is slightly over 3 inches high and is 4-3/4 inches in diameter at the top.
Suggested Usage:
To make a bowl of matcha tea, first let the matcha leaf powder come to room temperature, and sift it through a fine strainer. Using a bamboo tea scoop, place 1.5 to 2 teascoops into the tea bowl (or use a rounded half teaspoonful). Add from 1/4 to 1/3 cup of hot, simmering water. Briskly whisk the tea and hot water using a bamboo tea whisk -- starting slowly to dissolve the matcha, then moving very briskly back and forth in the middle of the bowl. Hold the whisk vertically, barely touching the bottom of the bowl. When a soft light foam develops, slowly lift the whisk from the center of the bowl -- it's done.
