Product Notes:
Alpha Lipoic Acid (aka ALA, α-lipoic acid, and dl-Thioctic acid) is in every cell of our body and has multiple roles, including in converting the glucose circulating in our blood to energy. It's perhaps best known as an antioxidant, which can not only scavenge free radicals directly itself but also enhance how some other types of important antioxidants get absorbed, produced, or converted in our bodies. And because it's both fat and water soluble and can cross the blood-brain barrier, it can do that throughout the body.
With both anti-oxidant and anti-inflammatory properties, one area it's thought to be particularly useful is in protecting the 'myelin sheaths' which insulate nerve fibres from the damaging effects of oxidation: effects which manifest as peripheral neuropathy (whose symptoms can include numbness, tingling, clumsiness, and nerve pain). To that end, it is also accompanied here by two types of B-vitamins, which have also been associated with peripheral neuropathy (for deficiencies) and a possible nerve-regenerating effect in diabetics. Research indicates there may be at least two other populations which might benefit from such a combination: those with either polycystic ovarian syndrome (PCOS) or multiple sclerosis (MS).
