Product Notes:

Although it's almost never an issue for treated municipal water supplies, Nitrate (NO3) can accumulate in the soil and make its way to well water when the nitrogen found there (which may have been introduced from agricultural fertilizer, livestock manure, human wastewater (e.g. septic tank) treatment, or from industrial discharges) gets oxidized by either microorganisms or lightning. Nitrate gets reduced to nitrite in our bodies, which can have many serious adverse effects, including on infants.

These top quality Nitrate Removal Filters are produced by Kum Yang Materials, a Korean company that has been making NSF-certified bio-ceramic balls with specialized water filtering functions for over 35 years.

Nitrate Filter Technologies

Synthetic zeolite balls have a high ion exchange function enabling them to break chemical bonds apart, so they can not only 'pry' the oxygen away from the nitrogen and then absorb the nitrogen, but also help soften hard water and neutralize odors.

These RN (short for: Remove Nitrates) filters also contain activated carbon balls, whose activated carbon powder also help purify the water (including by adsorbing harmful heavy metals) and remove odors; as well as limescale removal balls; and calcium sulfite (CaS03) balls to further reduce impurities and organic matter and the bad smells or taste they cause, and which also remove chlorine.

Applications

They can either be used as a stand-alone product (as a single inline passthrough filter) or be easily integrated with other types of filtration systems you may already have.

Although somewhat longer than most drinking water filters (which tend to run about 10 inches long; these are 14), these filters are similar to other inline filters that are compatible with 1/4" John Guest brand Straight Union Connectors to enable quick connections to tubing to connect to a water input line or another filtration system on one end and on to the drinking faucet (or to another stage of a more complex purifier) on the other.

Their capacity is in the 7,000 to 8,000 liter range, and they should be replaced about every 12 to 18 months.
