Inositol is a nutrient which used to be classified as part of the B-Complex vitamin family. It is an integral part of all cellular membranes which contributes to muscular and nerve function, and helps metabolize fats in the liver, among other things. These NOW powders provide Myo-Inositol, its most abundant form, which all cell membranes use in their signalling molecules to respond to external stimuli - especially in the brain and central nervous system's neurotransmitters, where it can help support healthy mood balance when taken as a supplement.
Two mood disturbances Inositol may particularly be able to help with are panic disorders (reducing panic attacks and agoraphobia) and obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD). A somewhat related area it reportedly may be of help with as a supplement is for psoriasis, brought on or worsened by lithium drug therapy.
It may also be able to contribute to Healthy Ovarian Function and blood sugar maintenance, in women, to promote ovulation in those who are having trouble with that due to polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS).
In addition, some studies indicate Inositol can be quite valuable as an adjunctive therapy to help ameliorate the side effects and preserve the quality of life in patients being treated with chemotherapy for some types of cancer.
