As nutritional support, licorice root is believed to decrease swelling, thin out mucus secretions, decrease coughs, and increase the compounds which help to heal ulcers and repair the gut lining.
Licorice root can also be helpful for those experiencing late-stage hypofunction of the HPA axis (the key hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal system that regulates our bodies response to stress), that is, those who now have mainly chronically low levels of cortisol circulating in the blood (such as those with Chronic Fatigue Syndrome or Addison's Disease) rather than the normal high and low variations in response to stress, by influencing influence the enzyme* which converts the active form of cortisol into its inactive form, cortisone. (* Namely, 11β-HSD2, or 11β-hydroxysteroid dehydrogenase type 2.)

Each capsule contains:
450 mg Licorice (Glycyrrhiza glabra L.) (dried roots).
Other ingredients: Capsule (gelatin, water), Stearic Acid.
Free of yeast, wheat, corn, soy, milk, preservatives, additives. Natural colour variations may occur in this product.
Suggested Usage:
Adults: Take 3 capsules, 3 times daily, with water, for up to 4 to 6 weeks.
Warnings:
Long term, high level use is NOT recommended for most users, due to the risk of it increasing blood pressure (by depleting potassium and increasing sodium levels). Do not use NOW Licorice Root capsules if you are pregnant or breastfeeding; or if you have impaired kidney or liver functions, high blood pressure, heart disease; or if you are a man with decreased libido. Consult a health care practitioner before taking if you have diabetes or hypokalemia; or if you are taking any kind of hormonal therapies, diuretics, potassium depleting agents or MAO inhibitors.
