Info: 2 Filter, 3 Stage Countertop Water Purifier

The Integrity Dual is a two-compartment countertop drinking water purification system which retains the minerals and maintains the alkalinity and pH level of the incoming water, producing great tasting purified mineral water. Its filters last MUCH longer and have much lower operational costs than Brita-style pitcher water purifiers, and take very little time to produce clean water on demand, so you can easily use this system for all your cooking as well as your drinking water needs.

Product Notes:

sink connector for OPUS Integrity system

The OPUS Integrity Dual Countertop Water Purifier is designed for those who live in condominiums or apartments, where permanent water filtration systems cannot be installed, or for those who simply want a system that is more portable.

This system is intended for use in areas where your water supply has been treated with either chlorine or chloramine but does not have added fluoride, or for those who prefer to retain fluoride, if it has been added. This is our most affordable high performance countertop water filtration system, but please note, it does not remove fluoride.

No plumbing or drilling is required to install an OPUS Integrity countertop system. Simply attach the included diverter valve (shown here) to the tip of your existing faucet where the aerator it situated, and the filtration housing comes with its own built-in faucet/spout to deliver clean drinking water whenever you want it.

Annual Replacement Filter Kits are of course available, as well.

ANNUAL COST OF OPERATION: Either $100 or $150 (Details provided below)

Included Components:
• Dual 10" countertop filter housing, with a built-in faucet.
• A dirt/rust/sediment/chlorine prefilter, in a choice of types; either:
   a) one high-capacity 1-micron pleated filter that can last a full year if your water supply is relatively clean to begin with, to remove fine silt, rust, or clay particles; or,
  b) a standard capacity 5 micron carbon block filter, if your water supply and/or plumbing fixtures have been delivering far more visible pollutants such as sand, coarse rust, and sediment. These are unlikely to last a full year before they begin to get clogged and the flow rate for the filtered water becomes noticeably slower, so we provide two with the initial purchase and recommend switching it out every six months, or so.
• One 1 micron catalytic carbon block filter to adsorb chlorine, chloramines, and sediment down to 1 micron, and to improve the drinking water's odour and taste.
• A diverter valve with pre-attached vinyl tubing, to connect to a standard water faucet (the type with threads on the tip, which are usually covered by an aerator with a small filtering screen).

Stage 1: Choice of Dirt/Rust/Sediment Filter, with initial Chlorine Removal
The dirt/rust/sediment filter is installed in the first stage (the chamber with the water input elbow that the tubing is connected to). This filter should be changed either once a year, in contexts where the unfiltered water wasn't noticeably cloudy to begin with, and you're using the high capacity 1 micron pleated filter, or every six months or sooner if you're using the 5 micron carbon block filter to treat dirtier water, once the water pressure drops significantly. Two of the 5 microns are included with the initial purchase and refill kits for that option, for one year of normal operation.

Stages 2 & 3: 1 Micron Catalytic Carbon Block filter
This dual stage filter is the right vertical stage of the unit, and consists of a 1 micron filter that has multiple functions including:
– adsorbing the chlorine or chloramines your municipality uses in its water treatment stations to kill bacteria (Stage 2);
– removing cysts, heavy metals, VOCs, major contaminants and other particulates down to the 1 micron level, and improving the taste and odor of the drinking water (Stage 3).

ANNUAL FILTER REPLACEMENT COSTS:
• Stage 2 & 3: 1 catalytic carbon block to adsorb chlorine, chloramines, cysts, heavy metals, VOCs, major contaminants and to improve taste and odor (store code / SKU 10616) (replace annually) - $50.00

• Stage 1: either the 5 Micron Carbon Block Sediment Filter (22461), $100.00 for a package of 2 (replace every six months); or one 1 micron high capacity filter (22491): $50

Suggested Usage:

For the initial use and when it is time to change the filters, you will need to 'flush' the filters by running water through them for a while, especially to clear the first filter of ultra-fine carbon powder before it needlessly clogs the second filter. That procedure is described here in the OPUS Integrity Dual Countertop Water Purifier Installation Guide [PDF]. That aside, there are really only two main steps to obtaining clear, clean water:

STEP 1 – Connect the included diverter valve to your kitchen faucet (you will likely need to unscrew the aerator filter on the tip of the faucet, first) and position the unit on the counter.

a) The Integrity's push-button water diverter has a 'female' thread that fits over the faucet tip, with a 55/64" thread size and 27 threads per inch, which is pretty standard for North American faucets. (However, if your faucet threads are a different size (e.g., metric) or has internal rather than external threads for the aerator, you would need to get a relatively inexpensive aerator adapter from a plumbing or hardware store with a male 55/64" thread on one end and whatever your faucet needs on the other.) The diverted cannot be connected to faucets which incorporate a pull-put sprayer in the centre of the faucet, though, but you could still most likely use it with your bathroom sink.)

b) It’s best to keep the Integrity Dual system positioned quite near the kitchen sink so that the integrated faucet won't drip on the counter or floor, in case it still releases another drop or two after turning the water off (which is apt to happen if you don't restore the diverter pin to its flow-through position).

Step 2 – Pull out the diverter pin and turn on the cold water faucet. Water will enter the system and exit the chrome water faucet. DO NOT ALLOW HOT WATER TO ENTER THE SYSTEM, AS HOT WATER WILL DAMAGE THE FILTERS.
