Product Notes:

Sarsaparilla is the common name for Smilex officinalis, a prickly vine with black, purple-blue, and red berries that's been used for thousands of years by indigenous South Americans.

This interesting herb was traditionally used to purify the blood and inhibit bacteria, eventually becoming the recommended treatment for syphilis, and has also been used for gout, gonorrhea, open wounds, arthritis, cough, fever, hypertension, pain, lack of sexual desire, and indigestion.

The saponins from Sarsaparilla have since been chemically defined, and are now used for the targeted treatment of a variety of skin conditions including psoriasis and eczema. These compounds may assist the healing process by binding to endotoxins produced by microbes (including bacteria and fungi) that would reduce the damage caused by the toxins and allow the body to eliminate pathogenic invaders easily.
