Help Maintain Healthy Eyes with Lutein, Astaxanthin and Taurine

Many of us are living longer, relatively healthier lives than previous generations, but to continue to enjoy a high quality of life, we should probably take extra precautions to keep our sensory organs intact – particularly the eyes, which are under constant assault from high-energy blue wavelengths from sunshine, indoor lighting, and screen devices, which can all cause oxidative damage, and high blood sugar levels can adversely affect our vision, as well.

Fortunately, there is now a great deal of scientific research identifying a number of nutrients that have important roles in maintaining healthy vision and in counteracting some of the main stressors on it, most of which have been incorporated into this powerful vision support formula. Some, such as Vitamin C, Vitamin D, and Vitamin B2/Riboflavin have not been included, however, likely because most people are already getting enough of them in their diets and/or multivitamins.

These eye-friendly protective nutrients include:

* Taurine, an amino acid that's able to cross the blood-brain barrier to serve both as antioxidant to protect the photoreceptors (the rods and cones) in the retina and as a neurotransmitter for the visual system. Taurine can help those with diabetic retinopathy, and since its only dietary source is from animals, people on vegan diets are also susceptible to a deficiency, which can cause retinal lesions, visual deterioration and macular degeneration.

* Vitamin A, which is strongly associated with poor night vision (nyctalopia) and dry eyes (xerophthalmia) when there's a deficiency; but because too much Vitamin A can be harmful to the liver, this formula supplies it in the form of Beta-Carotene, its precursor (which our bodies readily converts to Vitamin A only to the extent needed), which also synergistically enhances the protective and restorative effects of two of the more specialized fellow carotenoids, here (both fat-soluble): astaxanthin (an extremely potent antioxidant derived from microalgae) and lutein (a pigment in plants like marigolds which congregates in the macula to protect eye cells from UV light).

* Zinc, in a form (methionine) with superior bioavailability, to counteract vision loss and AMD. Zinc is utilized in the choroid, an inner layer of connective tissue in the eye which provides nutrients and oxygen to the retina just below it).

* Dark Berry Blend of blue-, black- and bil-berry extracts, whose antioxidant, anti-inflammatory and collagen-stabilizing properties help improve circulation to the eyes and strengthen their blood vessels, and which provide anthocyanosides such as Cyanidin-3-glucoside (C3G) to help improve night vision.
