Product Notes:
We're able to produce Vitamin D ourselves with sufficient sunlight exposure, but that's not always possible, particularly in the winter months at more northern latitudes.
Prairie Naturals Health Basics
These are our most economical offerings of this important vitamin in a non-liquid form - both in the recommended daily dose variety and in the extra strength version.
Among the supplementary forms, a D3 / Cholecalciferol type such as these are preferable to D2, because they are more easily absorbed and metabolized by the body. As a fat soluble vitamin, they are delivered in a base of edible oil to ensure it will be taken up by the body. And Prairie Naturals doesn't use just any carrier oil: these formulas use extra virgin olive oil, which has numerous health benefits of its own.
Vitamin D Strength in Canada
For many years, Health Canada guidelines restricted Vitamin D dosage to 1,000 international units per dose per day. Following requests over time from consumers, physicians, and industry stakeholders, Health Canada reviewed and revised their guidelines, finding that "2,500 IU (62.5 µg) would provide a safe daily maximum dose of vitamin D in non-prescription supplements for healthy children 9 years and older, adolescents, and adults." Products with 2,500 IUs were permitted for sale in Canada starting in 2021.

Consult your health care practitioner prior to use if you are pregnant or breastfeeding; or if you have kidney disorders; or if you take other vitamin D supplements, multivitamin supplements containing vitamin D, or products containing vitamin D analogues; or if you take any prescription medications including antacids, anticonvulsants, digoxin, cholestyramine, colestipol, mineral oil, steroids, statins, or thiazide diuretics.
Stop use and consult a health care practitioner if weakness, fatigue, drowsiness, headache, lack of appetite, dry mouth, metallic taste, nausea, vomiting, vertigo, ringing in the ears, lack of coordination and muscle weakness occur which are early symptoms of hypercalcemia or if you have any other side effects.
