Our stomachs produce hydrochloric acid (HCl) to help break down the fats and proteins in our food so it can be absorbed, plus pepsinogen, which the HCl helps transform into its active form, pepsin – a proteolytic enzyme that breaks the larger protein molecules down into smaller molecules called polypeptides, which the rest of our digestive system can use for energy and structural building.
But some people have low levels of stomach acid, including older people and those with certain autoimmune diseases (autoimmune gastritis), or who take proton pump inhibitor medications. Suggested Usage:
