Dr. Bronner's Sal Suds are a great multi-purpose cleaner, suitable for almost any household cleaning task: everything from laundry, dishes or bathrooms to outdoor tools, furniture, and vehicles. Not only are they family-, skin-, and Earth-friendly, but unlike conventional soaps, they don't leave a mineral residue.

Sal Suds Liquid Cleaner can effectively remove not only dirt and grime but also grease, whether you're using hard or soft or hot or cold water. Made with plant-based surfactants and scented with natural fir needle and spruce essential oils, they do not contain synthetic dyes or fragrances (being free from: parabens, phosphates, ammonia, chlorine bleach, and phthalates!).
They're biodegradable, and can safely be used around your yard, and are also mild and gentle on the skin (no gloves required). And unlike even all-natural soaps like their own Organic 18-in-1 Magic Pure Castile Liquid Soap, they do not react with the minerals contained in hard water, so won't leave a white film behind or make more absorbant fabrics like towels or cloth diapers stiff: they rinse off cleanly!
Dr. Bronner's Sal Suds Ingredients:
Water, Sodium Lauryl Sulfate, Lauryl Glucoside, Sodium Coco Sulfate, Sodium Benzoate, Abies siberica (Siberian Fir) Needle Oil, Picea glauca (White Spruce) Branch/Leaf Oil, Picea mariana (Black Spruce) Leaf Oil, Citric Acid, Sodium Chloride, Limonene.
Suggested Usage:
Sal Suds are twice as concentrated as many leading all-purpose cleaners. Dr. Bronner's recommends these dilution ratios for the follwing common cleaning tasks:
- for Washing Dishes by Hand: use just ½ – 1 ½ tsp. (2.5 mL to 7.5 mL) in a large sink of water; or about one drop of Sal Suds per pot, if washing your cookware individually.
- for Laundry: 1 to 1 ½ Tbsp (15 to 22 mL) for a large load in an HE (high efficiency) washer. Optional: For extra whitening/brightening, add 1/4 c. (70 g) baking soda to wash cycle and/or ½ c. (120 mL) vinegar to rinse cycle. Double these amounts for standard (non-HE) washers.
- for Handwashing Delicates: ½ capful (½ Tbsp. or 7.5 mL) Sal Suds in about 1 gallon (4 L) of water. Swish gently. Let soak 10 minutes. Swish again. Rinse with clean water. Gently press out excess water with a towel. Hang clothing or lay flat to dry.
- for Mopping (be it Wood, Laminate, Vinyl, Stone or Tile floors): 1 tsp. (5 mL) Sal Suds in 1 gallon (4 L) of hot water. Dunk mop (microfiber, preferably) and wring thoroughly. On wood and laminate, avoid excess water and mop up wet areas. For smaller areas, add 1/8 tsp. (0.6 mL) Sal Suds to a quart (1 L) of water in a squirt bottle.
- for scrubbing Toilets: For best results, turn off its water and empty the toilet bowl, first. Spray bowl thoroughly with All-Purpose Spray, or sprinkle 2-3 drops of Sal Suds directly on toilet brush. Sprinkle baking soda on a brush, scrub bowl. Let sit 10 minutes. Turn water on. Flush.
- for an All-Purpose Cleaning Spray: add 1.5 tsp. (7.5 mL) Sal Suds to a 16 oz. (500 mL) spray bottle of water. Spray and wipe with a damp cloth. Optional: Add ¼ tsp. (1.25 mL) tea tree essential oil. Use on any surface that is safe in contact with water.
- for a Window Wash: (aka Sal Suds Lite) ¼ tsp. (1.25 mL) in 16 oz. (500 mL) water in a spray bottle. Spray and squeegee. Follow with a spray of pure club soda, or half vinegar/half water, and squeegee.
- for a Fruit & Veggie Wash: 1 drop of Sal Suds in a bowl of water. Dunk and swish the produce. Rinse in clear water.
- for washing Cars / Vehicles: Use ½ Tbsp. (7.5 mL) Sal Suds in 3 gallons (12 L) of water for exterior. Use All-Purpose Spray on interior surfaces and leather seats. Wipe with damp cloth.
- for Patio Furniture: Use ½ Tbsp. (7.5 mL) Sal Suds in a bucket of warm water. Wash with sponge, microfiber cloth or stiff brush. Wipe with damp cloth.
