The key component of kybun shoes, of course, is their proprietary soft, elastic sole made from multi-component polyurethane (or PU, for its interior, which is enclosed by a protective rubber exterior), which has a trampoline-like effect: sinking down to cushion the impact of each step, but springing right back up to help activate the muscles in your feet and legs as you walk and to ready themselves for the next impact. Users (including the present writer) attest that these soles, especially the thickest ones like the Strato soles on this model, can provide substantial relief from a variety of conditions (including heel, hip, or knee pain) and facilitate healing and strengthening the musculoskeletal system, such that they can restore mobility to those who have already been avoiding walking due to the pain, and enable people on the verge of doing that to maintain their customary activities (such as being on their feet all day for work).
But it's not always just the bottoms of our feet that need some love: sometimes it's the tops or sides, which can develop various types of bumps, bunions or hot spots (whether from bone or foot spurs, ganglion cysts, nerve pain, arthritis, or other causes); or sometimes the foot as a whole may become swollen from a build-up of fluid (aka edema, which can have many causes, including pregnancy, certain medications (including estrogen), or long periods of sitting or travel without getting up to walk around). If you're prone to either of those problems, these may be the ideal shoes for you. Their uppers are made from a soft and stretchy fabric that can conform to many bumps or bulges or expand if the feet swell, and they're seamless, so you won't be troubled by any ridges.

*Sizing note for repeat kybun customers: Following the recent merger of Karl Mueller III and IV's two shoe companies, kybun has shifted its European/US equivalence scale for the women's sizes down by half a size, to match Joya's. (E.g., the women's European size 39 kybuns used to equate to an 8.5 US, but now it's an 8.) So if you already have an older (pre-2024) pair of kybuns, please order your new ones here according to the European size on the label found under the tongue of your old shoe (or on one of the main straps of the sandals) rather than according to the US size.
