L-Theanine (5-N-ethyl-glutamine) is an amino acid that's present in small amounts in green tea. It can help people relax, particularly when taken in a more concentrated form as a natural extract as in these formulations. L-Theanine can increase the levels of GABA and serotonin in the brain, which are involved in regulating mood and anxiety.
Green tea is also an antioxidant, rich in polyphenols such as flavanols, flavandiols, flavonoids, and phenolic acids, which may have beneficial cardiovascular, neurological, and oncological effects by reducing additional oxidation caused by stress. It may even help prevent atherosclerosis.
The regular strength version supplements the L-Theanine extract with powder from green tea as a whole to maximize those antioxidant effects, using a non-caffeinated version to ensure it won't produce an increase in blood pressure. The double strength variety supplements it with Inositol, a form of Vitamin B (B8) that's essential for the health of the central nervous system which may be effective in treating some psychological disorders that would respond to serotonin uptake inhibitors, such as depression, anxiety, or OCD. Both forms promote relaxation without producing drowsiness or having the risk factors or adverse effects that most other calming agents have.
Each regular strength capsule (NPN 80007040) contains 100 mg of L- Theanine and 250 mg of Decaffeinated Green Tea Powder (Camellia sinensis)
Each Double Strength capsule (NPN 80046122) contains 200 mg of L- Theanine, and 100 mg of Inositol.
Other Ingredients for both: Veg. Capsule (hypromellose, water), Magnesium Stearate (vegetable source), and Silica; and the 100 mg version also has Rice Flour.
Take 1 regular strength capsule two times daily, or one Double Strength capsule a day.
